Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2
The problem I have picked is the
lack of blue lights on emergency row. For this assignment, I have interviewed
five different people.
First, I interviewed a parent of a
student who goes here. This mother seemed very concerned about this issue and
agrees that this should be an issue that needs to be fixed right away. She went
on to explain how she has always explained to her children to never ever walk
alone especially late at night. She knows sometimes her son walks home late at
night alone, and knowing he is walking to an area where in case of an emergency
you can’t even get help scares her.
My second interview was my roommate.
After studying in the library late last night I asked her how she got home, she
looked at me and said she walked like she always does. I explained to her the situation
as well, and she knew exactly what I was talking about. She said one reason she
only walks alone is because of the blue lights in the area of where she is
walking. She explained how she would never walk alone in the fraternity area because
of the lack of lights.
Third, I interviewed a friend who
lives on fraternity row. He is aware of what is going on and believes this is
something all the fraternities should work together as well to get the
university to add lights. He went on to explain though, he does not care to
have the lights and feels safe walking alone as long as he has a cellphone with
him.
After meeting
with one of my TA’s, she believes this shouldn’t even be a conversation amongst
people and without hesitation the University’s security should make sure to add
them in this area to avoid risking anything bad happening. She also explained
how this did not affect her because she is not in that area ever unless she is
with a group of people.
Lastly, I interviewed
another student at UF. One who did not agree with this situation, she felt that
it was irrelevant to her because only boys live on Fraternity row, she
explained that it would be beneficial if UF added lights but agreed that it
honestly does not affect her.
