Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
1.
The Opportunity I would like to pursue is the
lack of Blue emergency lights on Fraternity row.
2.
Fraternity row, on the campus of University of
Florida, are lacking the blue emergency lights which can save students from
being put in a dangerous situation.
·
The Who: Students at the university of Florida.
·
The What: The danger of students walking alone
with no source of emergency help.
·
The Why: Certain areas of campus are lacking the
blue emergency lights which students need in case of emergency.
3.
If there were more emergency lights on
Fraternity Row then more students would feel as if they were ever in a
dangerous situation.
·
Testing the Who: I believe students from all
different Universities have this need, especially the students here at the university
of Florida.
·
Testing the What: Is fraternity row the only
area of campus that is lacking the blue emergency lights?
·
Testing the Why: If Blue emergency lights were
placed on Fraternity row would there be less dangerous situations for the
students in that area.
4.
Interviews:
·
Nicole Savetz: After speaking with Nicole,
inside of Library West, she was also familiar with the idea that campus was
lacking the blue lights. Nicole who is a journalism major was also doing
research on this topic for one of her assignments. After discussing with Nicole,
she informed me that there are protests on September 17th on
Fraternity row. She believes the best way to solve this problem would to start
signing petitions and show the University that students care about this.
·
Kayla Jaffy: Kayla is a student at the
University of Florida. On September 17th, she participated in the
protest that occurred on Fraternity Row. Dressed in a blue t-shirt, Kayla explained
how this is a very important subject to her while she finds herself walking
alone many times and never would want her or others to be placed in a dangerous
situation.
·
Gianna Pesce: Gianna believes that there should
be lights specifically on fraternity row. She states that if there are already
blue lights all over campus, there is no harm in adding them Fraternity Row, an
area where she believes assault frequently happens on college campuses around the
world. If adding a blue will make hundreds of people feel safer, there is no reason
that they shouldn’t be added.
·
Josh Cohen: After interviewing a former student,
Josh, who lived in a fraternity house on frat row was unaware of this
situation. He stated that he believes this is an important area to have emergency
lights located especially because of the sorority that is located there. He has
a younger sister and believes especially girls should never be walking alone. He
explained that these lights would make the sorority girls feel safer and
everyone else who is walking home alone especially when it is dark out at
night.
·
Sofia Kalman: Sofia who is very involved on
campus believes this is a major issue that the University needs to consider. Sofia
has found herself in situations where she has been walking alone and felt in an
uncomfortable situation and waited for someone to walk with her. She believes
no one should be put in an uncomfortable situation and that this should be a
matter that gets fixed immediately.
5.
After interviewing with many people, I learned a
lot of information on this topic. I was unaware of the protest that occurred this
past Tuesday, after discussing with one of my interviewers I learned that many
people on campus are aware of this situation and everyone agrees that lights
should be added to this area.
Great post! I like how you are continuing to focus on an opportunity you found in an earlier assignment. Especially one that has to do with the UF campus. I believe that this is an issue that needs to more attention from the universities officials. The post was well written and devoid of any errors. Good job and I look forward to your future posts.
